That's definitely not the case with my most recent book to review, Decluttering at the Speed of Life by Kimberly Golladay. First of all, she's honest about where she's come from - so it's not just some ultra-neat person telling you what to do. She's up front about where she still struggles, and about the fact that decluttering is an ongoing process.
What I love about the book is her approach - to tackle the most visible places first every time. It seems counterintuitive, because you'd think some rooms never get done, but that's actually not the case, as she explains in her book. Secondly, her approach is extremely simple, with a five-step formula in every room. Throughout the book she tailors it slightly for the type of room, and also explains the Container Concept - that every room is a container and you get to keep what fits in that container.
She acknowledges the pain that can come from decluttering, and even the grief that sometimes happens, but comes across as a friend who's been there, who understands.
If other decluttering books haven't worked for you, this one just might. Its simple rules and heartfelt tone make it easier to follow and stick with than any other one I've read before.
