Book Nook: All Aboard the Discovery Express

If you have a kid who is really into any sort of transportation (trains, planes, etc) they'll enjoy a book I recently got to review: All Aboard the Discovery Express. This lift-the-flap book is both educational and fun.

The book's setting is decades ago, when a professor mysteriously disappears just as he's about to make a brilliant discovery. Readers travel through time to find the clues and track down the professor. Along the way, they learn about inventors, engineers, and scientists who affected the development of transportation around the world.

This book wouldn't be appropriate for very young kids, but it's great for anyone from early elementary on up. Although the predominant image on the front is a train, it covers a variety of transport types, including the world's first jet engine. The illustrations are beautiful and detailed, adding visual interest to the information.
