Book Nook: The Musical Adventures of Grace - Spring

Did you know that patients generally spend 13-16 minutes with their doctor during a visit? As a trained Physician Assistant, Ken Korber knows first-hand that 13-16 minutes isn't enough time to review and discuss healthy lifestyle choices. So after 30 years in the healthcare industry, Korber made a stunning career change and became a children's storybook author.

I had a chance to review an activity book and Korber's newest book.

Today, Ken Korber's published writings have led to the formation of The Healthy Music Project. This program uses books and characters as educational tools for building reading skills, appreciating elements of music, and advocating wellness for the general public, and with in at-risk vulnerable communities of children and adults.

"The Musical Adventures of Grace- Spring" is the last of a four part series and inspired by his son, a cellist, about grace notes – “minor notes that are sometimes used by the orchestra to give the music more ‘color." The story follows a grace note that is transformed into a little girl who, then, goes on to make new musical friends. Throughout Grace's adventures, she, and her crew, learn about the magical things that happen when you create, play instruments, sing, and listen to all kinds of music.

I teach music, so I love music being incorporated in ways to educate kids about health - I also love books that make learning musical concepts fun. The activity book and the book were kid-friendly, with bold illustrations and fun stories.

"The Musical Adventures of Grace - Spring," and the entire series is currently available on Amazon.comBarnesandNoble.com and KorberEnterprises.com.  Each title  retails for $14.95 (hard copy) or $4.95 (e-book).
