Decide Your Future: Write, Direct and Star in Your Life by Cie Allman-Scott, Ph.D., is a book for people that want to finally succeed or get ahead early in life—and presents a personalized, uncomplicated process for doing just that. Dr. Cie, an accomplished author and international keynote speaker, shows readers how to approach every decision with greater confidence by using a 7-step method for applying personal values, needs and wishes to reach successful outcomes.
I had a chance to interview Dr. Cie to learn more.
Why did you decide to write this book?I have been directed toward decision-making for 16 years. I have lectured world-wide regarding the human brain and its processes, leading to behavior, learning and aging. The brain has ’ short-cuts’ wired in that interfere with optimal decision making. We need to be aware of how humans are wired if we desire optimal performance. It is part of my mission in life to help others overcome their issues and to find the success they desire. Every moment, with every decision and action we create and change our lives. We are either advancing toward the success we desire or away from it. I tested and tweaked a set of 7 steps, including their best utilized order and designed a process that would work for any decision, big or small, and address the facts, intuition, goals and intentions of any user who employs my process.Like a scientist, I am constantly focussed on cause and effect. So often we will not notice the cause of the situation, regarding health, finances or relationships. We have a habit of band-aiding an unwelcome or sore situation, and if we could address the cause of distress or disease and realign the origin of the problem, we could certainly find better results. Critical thinking plays a large role. Coupled with intuition and a renewing source of energy, we can create the life we want to live. In all, if we don’t make decisions that send us backwards or sideways, instead making decisions that take us in the direction we prefer, the wasted money or resources and lost time that delayed us would have yielded more positive results. We can advance with greater awareness and by not allowing ourselves to act on auto-pilot. We must put some thought into everything we are doing and how it will affect the future.
How can people be more confident in their decision making? First, confidence can be built through exercises and practicing healthy habits yielding efficient behavior. When we feel strong instead of weak, naturally it is easier to make decisions, and the hesitancy dissipates. Also, by realizing that mistakes have value and that we can learn and advance through our mistakes, we can allow ourselves additional freedom to advance, even knowing that we may have a learning experience instead of the desired outcome, but these consequences can be opportunities in disguise. Sometimes such an opportunity or rite of passage can align us with a more perfect outcome. We don’t need to get it right as much as we need to get it going! Barbara Corcoran, aShark Tank investor explained this to my Emmy voting group one day at Sony Studios; it’s valuable advice.
What can people do if they're unable to make a confident decision? The inability or aversion to making decisions frequently comes from negatively seen past events. Our subconscious minds store the experiences and feelings generated that were seemingly detrimental, and for many people it is difficult to move past this. By using the decision making 7-step procedure in my book Decide Your Future, the user can surrender fully to this easy process. They would have such a strong internal agreement with their final decision (made with the 7 steps) that they would fully commit to the decision they rendered. (Also, users will not contemplate changing the decision after it has been made using this mindful and scientific process.) This feeling is elating and a new outlook is guaranteed. The book also has exercises to create confidence and self esteem.
How can people get more in tune with their intuition while avoiding distracting thoughts? We all know and experience a record number of distractions every day! We now take our phones with us everywhere, therefore it’s difficult to get a moment of peace. Paraphrasing from my text, peace and quiet in the eye of the storm is not given; it is taken. We must facilitate a quiet place and turn off the phone, TV and music and allow ourselves time to rejuvenate, refresh and to allow those truths within us to come to the surface. The numerous distractions impair our ability to hear a still, small voice within. I address this fully in Step # 6: The Gift of Intuition and How to Use It. With so many messages in our heads, how can we decipher which are the correct messages to act upon? After it is clearly explained, any user can hear the best idea and discard the other ideas with ease.
