One Dish, Four Seasons is a new cookbook by Jordan Zucker. Each recipe has four different versions to be a perfect variation for one of the four seasons. There are lots of visual aids, commentary by the author, a section with overall cooking and seasoning tips, and (one thing that's really unique about this book), a wine and music pairing for each dish. You can get an idea of the book with this recipe (reprinted with permission).
WINE: Shiraz
PRODUCER: Mollydooker
‘The Boxer’
REGION: South Australia,
Australia
The New York City winters won’t
be bleeding you with this Boxer.
Mollydooker, the Aussie term for
“lefty,” is a favorite winemaker of
the regions outside Adelaide in
South Australia. This approachable,
entry-level Shiraz has blueberry
and cocoa flavors, which party
well with the fennel component in
this recipe.
T or F: I accidentally
drank two bottles of the higher end Carnival of Love because my
dad said the Mollydooker was fair
game in our Vermont wine cellar,
but he meant The Boxer and then
I had to scour all of L.A. to find
replacement bottles of the 2006
Carnival of Love. (Hint: It’s T. And
worth the hunt.)
OPP: Henschke, Shaw +
Smith, d’Arenberg
BAND: Simon & Garfunkel
ALBUM: Bridge Over
Troubled Water
YEAR/GENRE: (1970),
Folk Rock
Swallow this Shiraz by Mollydooker
with some Paul and Art—Paul
is one of the most renowned
lefties around (Mollydooker is the
Australian term for left-handed
people). And yes, we all get it,
The Boxer with “The Boxer.” As
you know because you’ve read
every page of this book in order,
my parents took me to the famed
Central Park concert in 1982. It
was my first “adult” concert (I
had already seen and met Burl
Ives). Our big father-daughter
duet back then was “Keep the
Customer Satisfied.” I usually did
Paul and Dad usually did Art. But
occasionally I’d want to switch it
up. Whichever line of harmony is
best suited for you, the tart will
always sing customer satisfaction.
