Healthy Habits: Indoor Air Quality

Did you know that winter weather causes issues with indoor air quality?  The better insulated your house the worse the air in your home can be.  Contaminants can’t escape.  Contaminants like bacteria, viruses, mold spores, dust mites, all can make you very sick and is why it is so important for your home to have an air purifier.  I had a chance to interview representatives from Airfree to learn more.

How can better insulation contribute to poor indoor air quality?
In polluted areas good insulation will avoid traffic and industrial pollution, pollens to enter homes and offices, reducing heating and cooling costs so as power generation
On the other hand,  no outside air exchange (ventilation) boosts the development of airborne mold and spores,  mildew proliferation, and creates the ideal breeding conditions for dust mites and other insects increasing their feces and skeletons toxic allergens
What are some steps people can take to reduce the amount of contaminants in the air?
In polluted areas always keep doors and windows closed.
In non-polluted areas open windows to ventilate rooms and exchange indoor air by fresh air
In addition cleaning and vacuuming must be done regularly. Repair any water leakages causing mold and  carefully and well protected remove any mold stains. The regular uses of  use air purifier is recommended.
How can people find a quality air purifier?
In the USA where most houses are kept with windows closed to save energy when heating or cooling, creating the ideal environment for mold growth as well as the development of dust mite and other insect allergens. The major concern should then be to destroy or filter airborne microorganisms.
Efficient  filterless systems are ideal as it will save hundreds of dollars
Efficiency is also a factor, ideally, air purifiers should be evaluated bases in independent tests performed in large rooms with people circulating in it.
In bedrooms noise is quite disturbing therefore, one silent or the most quiet air purifier should be considered
If cooking in open area then one cooking odor capsule or filter is to also be considered.
Size is also to be seen as you do not want it to call attention. Some efficient models are small and have a great design

Airfree has been mastering air purification since 2004 and has done it so well that its proprietary technology is the most tested in the world.  Airfree offers an entirely passive air filtration system that just needs to be plugged in - no filter, no mess.
