Book Nook: The Order of Time

I recently had a chance to review The Order of Time by Scott Southall. This book is geared for middle-grade readers, and is great for those looking for a story filled with adventure and suspense, with a little bit of history thrown in.

The main characters are twins who are best friends. Whether they’re fending off bullies at their elite Washington D.C. school or examining rare antiquities at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, life is always an adventure! But nothing prepared them for the complicated twists and turns when they find out their mentor at the museum, Dr. Gregorian, is part of The Order of Time. It unwittingly falls to the twins to travel back through time to ancient Egypt where they must overcome deadly assassins, evil high priests and vengeful gods in order to prevent disaster.
Having a brother and sister who are best friends in sixth grade means that boys and girls can find a strong character - and it also highlights the importance of family bonds. My daughter loved the time travel and ancient Egypt connections. Once she started reading it, she couldn't put it down until she finished it - and it was a length that allowed for a satisfying story, but also wasn't intimidating for readers that may not want a longer book.
