Book Nook: Inspiring Books from Mango Publishing

I recently had the chance to check out several books for teens designed to help them be their best selves.

Be True To Yourself: Daily Affirmations and Awesome Advice for Teen Girls
When Amanda Ford emerged from her tumultuous teenage years, she saw the need for a guide to help girls learn to listen to their inner voices and think for themselves. Be True To Yourself is the big sister Amanda never had―and always wanted to be. It provides the encouragement and guidance she wished, as a teenage girl, that an older sister had given her, as well as stories and advice that she would have loved to share with a younger sister during her own teen years.

This book was very far-reaching in the topics it covered. It really did read like a big sister sharing advice to a younger sister - not preachy, but speaking from the heart and from experience.

The Awe Factor How a Little Bit of Wonder Can Make a Big Difference in Your Life
What does it mean to be awestruck? Or more simply, what is awe? Backed by the latest scientific research, bestselling author and TEDx presenter Allen Klein sets out to define awe and its effects on health and happiness. With a sprinkling of the spiritual and scientific, The Awe Factor takes readers on an exploration of a human phenomenon. From research to first-hand awe-inspiring stories, Klein reflects on feelings of awe, meaning and purpose. And with bonus awe-awakening tools, tips, and techniques, he helps readers become more aware of, and increase, the awe and wonder in their life.

I love the idea of awe, and this book does a great job of defining just what is really awe-inspiring and how we can find more of it in our lives.

Mindfulness For Warriors: Empowering First Responders to Reduce Stress and Build Resilience
First responders have the incredibly difficult job of running toward danger while the rest of us run away. No training can prepare them for what they will see and endure. Kim Colegrove understands what it’s like to watch someone go through that. After 30 years in law enforcement, her husband took his own life. This agonizing experience opened Kim’s eyes to the desperate need for an effective form of stress-relief and support for first responders. With 40 years of experience, Kim Colegrove is here to share with readers that there is a viable and practical resource for first responders found in meditation. Mindfulness for Warriors shows readers that no matter our profession, taking care of our mental health needs to be a priority.

I can't imagine the stress that first responders are under, bu I thought this book was a great option for targeting people who are in those jobs, protecting the rest of us.

Be That Unicorn: Find Your Magic, Live Your Truth, and Share Your Shine
Being a unicorn means being the magnetic person that everyone in the room is drawn to. It means being honest and true to yourself every day, no matter what. In Be That Unicorn, Jenny Block, author of several best sellers for women, shows you how to stop putting yourself down and start finding your magic. This book offers you the confidence to be authentic and original in every aspect of your life―at home, at work, and in relationships. Sometimes it’s about how to make your bed in the morning, and sometimes it’s baking treats to make yourself and others feel good. You are a badass! It’s time to share that shine.

This was a fun book. It was upbeat and happy, and it appealed to both my magic-loving daughter and my more cynical, realistic daughter. Kudos to the author for being able to do that!
