Movie Minute: News from FilmRise

This January, we’ve got the laughs! January 9th - 10th, join us for our Comedy Movie Marathon, featuring some Hollywood’s funniest stars, perfect  for the whole family. Titles include Jack Black as the eponymous  character in Richard Linklater’s now-classic BERNIE, Edward Norton-times-two as twins who are complete opposites in Tim Blake Nelson’s LEAVES OF GRASS, Ron Livingston as a yuppie who discovers that his biological parents are Danny Devito and Kathy Bates in RELATIVE STRANGERS and more.

Later this month, we’ve got a primo line-up of your favorite BBC medical shows with our “MD TV” marathon January 23rd - 24th. Some of our best British MDs are on call, including the titular “Doc Martin,” Sue White and the cast of “Green Wing,” Adrian Lukis and team in “Peak Practice” and more. Add this to your Watch List... STAT!

Finally, we’re also ringing in the new year with some brand new TV titles to our catalogue. One is “West of Liberty,” a critically-acclaimed German/Swiss series about a former Stasi double agent who is asked by his old CIA contact to work one more case. The other is Canadian series “Little Dog,” a drama about a boxer who makes a comeback to redeem his past.

  • LABOR PAINS (Dir. Stacy Kramer, 2009) A young woman (Lindsay Lohan) pretends to be pregnant in order to avoid being fired from her job. When that gets her special treatment by everyone involved in her life, she tries to keep up the lie for nine months.

  • LEAVES OF GRASS (Dir. Tim Blake Nelson, 2009) An Ivy League professor (Edward Norton) is lured back to his Oklahoma hometown, where his twin brother (also Edward Norton), a small-time pot grower, has concocted a scheme to take down a local drug lord.

  • RELATIVE STRANGERS (Dir. Greg Glienna, 2006) A hip, well-dressed yuppie (Ron Livingston) tracks down his biological parents (Danny Devito & Kathy Bates), only to find that they live in a trailer park.
