I had a chance to learn more in this interview.
Why did you write this book?-Ganit and Adir always knew they wanted to write a book to motivate and inspire kids, however they were inspired by a quote that they heard in a Tony Robbins seminar and knew that they had to write a book to bring that message to kids. That's how What Should Danny Do? got started!
-Kids feel a lot of times that they do not have any power or agency in their lives, where a lot of their days are planned out for them, but that's not the truth. Kids actually have a hundred choices to make in a day, and those choices have power to shape their experiences. We think that connecting with this power through Danny is super fun because it gets kids thinking about their own choices and makes them feel empowered as decision makers. Additionally, the books teach that even if you make a few bad choices, you can always get things going back in the right direction with your next choice, so it gives kids the liberty to explore and try out different reactions to scenarios than they may make if the same scenario were to happen in real life.
-The books help teach real life skills through relatable scenarios that mirror what a child might actually run into on a daily basis. When the child gets to see how their choices for Danny affect his day, they are also subconsciously understanding that their power to choose has the power to direct their own days. Furthermore, it frames things that might happen - like someone bumping into you at lunch or your brother bugging you for your toy - as opportunities for either a positive or a not as positive result, which is something that we usually don't see taught in such a way to kids of that age.
Author Details
Adir Levy knew he would be an author since he was 12 years old. Then life happened. He went to college, met the love of his life, started a business (or 16 of them) and had a baby (and then another, and another and another!). He always knew, however, that his businesses would not fulfill his purpose and it would be through writing that he would contribute his part to better the world. So one day he finally woke up and decided to start writing.
