I recently had the chance to interview rewards platform Expert, CEO, and Founder of Rewards Bunny, Jacky Goh, about the nexus between gamification and success of reward platform apps.
What has led to the rise in rewards apps?
- With the acquisition of Honey by Paypal for $4 billion in 2020 and with people getting used to living with the Covid-19 pandemic, from working from home being the new norm, online shoppers started to understand rewards app better as people are looking for ways to save whenever possible leading to the rise in rewards app.
What makes a quality rewards app?
- The definition of a quality app defer from each individuals. It can range from how aesthetically pleasing the app is to how user friendly and bug-free an app can be. Ultimately the main goal of every app is to be as engagement as possible. And with that, an high quality rewards app needs to not just have performance stability, it also have to be user-friendly with the ease of use and engage with users with the function of gamification.
How does gamification fit into app usage?
- Gamification is a game mechanic adding into non-game elements, increasing user engagements and interests. With a rewards system, gamification can fit in by rewarding users when they complete tasks, increase their rank, or by receiving badges for achieving certain achievements. This will also help foster a stronger connection with the users.
How can app creators make sure that an app is both engaging and worthwhile?
- Firstly, app creators need to identify and understand their audiences. Every user feedback is important to help keep your users engaged in terms of UI and UX.
Secondly, offer value to make it worthwhile for your users to keep using your app. This could be in the terms of rewards, deals, or something fun for them to share it with others.
Lastly, adapt accordingly to market trends and user feedback. You may never know how a simple suggestion could tremendously make your app improve and go viral with a viral trend or marketing campaign. Be fluid and adapt various features that could add to your app.
