Contest: Try Prayer! It Works!

It’s back! The “Try Prayer! It Works!” Contest has returned for 2022 and students are urged to send in their entries now. The deadline for the national competition is February 25, 2022.

The theme for this year’s contest is The Holy Family. The 2022 “Try Prayer! It Works!” Contest is focused on the enrichment of family faith in the home. Our goal is to inspire young people and their families to welcome the presence of God and the Holy Family into their lives.

Children and teens can participate with their families or with their Catholic school, parish, and other organization. Participants can reflect on the example of the Holy Family and use their creative skills to share stories and ideas about following the Holy Family as role models.

Entries will be judged on content, ability to capture and interpret the theme, artistic and technical proficiency, and adherence to contest rules. Contestants are urged to have fun with this endeavor! Be creative, consider The Holy Family, what family means to you, and how you would like to express yourself in an artistic way, to show how the family model of Mary, Joseph, and Jesus shape the way you live your life.

Family Rosary was founded in 1942 by Father Patrick Peyton, C.S.C., who was declared Venerable in December of 2017. The “Try Prayer! It Works!” Contest is named for an experience during Father Peyton’s seminary studies.

While a seminarian, Patrick was stricken with severe tuberculosis. At one point, a frustrated physician said, “Try prayer. We have done all we can for you.” Patrick prayed his Rosary to the Blessed Mother and soon made a miraculous recovery, which he attributed entirely to Mary’s intercession.

This experience – coupled with his spiritually-rich family life during his youth in Ireland – inspired Venerable Patrick Peyton to devote his life to Mary, Mother of God, and to the spiritual well-being of the family. His famous message, “The family that prays together stays together,” still resonates today.

In the spirit of its founder, Venerable Patrick Peyton, Family Rosary serves Jesus Christ and His Church by inspiring, promoting and fostering the prayer life and spiritual well-being of families throughout the world. Family Rosary encourages family prayer, especially the Rosary. For more information, visit www.FamilyRosary.org.

Please consider sharing the gift of family prayer with families, schools, teachers, and young people you know by encouraging them to participate in the 2022 contest. Materials are posted on www.FamilyRosary.org/TryPrayer.
