“F*ck Off, Chloe: Surviving the OMGs and FMLs in Your Media Career” comes out March 1st but is already on pre-sale at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Apple, and other retailers. The book is about the culture clash between Gen Zers coming into the work force and people who have been there for years.
I had a chance to interview the author to learn more.
Why did you write this book? First, to give some levity. Everyone is so stressed and anxious from these last two years. We’ve heard and seen so much, from COVID to economy, job loss, election, politics. I wanted to make people laugh again. We’re so consumed with being outraged that people are now looking for things to be outraged about. A book that can make people smile, snicker, blush or howl is just what we need. Especially for parents. Raising kids in this climate cannot be easy. Moms have it hardest. If I could give them a few moments of laughter, it makes it worth it. Just don’t let your kids see the title!!!
Why is it important to have an appropriate sense of humor about issues that may be potentially divisive, like generational differences? Because we are taking ourselves way too seriously, young and old. And there’s also great humor in that divide. We have to pop our own balloons every now and then and realize we’re not that important, or different from each other. We’re all going through the same things no matter what your age. Work sucks for everyone.
What do you hope readers take away from this book? Embarrassment that they liked it so much. It’s a guilty pleasure. It’s funny and inappropriate enough to want to hide it while you are reading, but I think you’ll keep reading.
