Gen Z Career Trends

As Gen Z grows up and enters the workforce, one thing is becoming clear - Times are changing. But just what does this younger generation mean for the future career landscape? A recent survey conducted by Brainly, the world’s largest online learning platform and homework help community, sheds some light on just that.

>> Gen Z is not as concerned with salary as previous generations.
Only 64.8% of Gen Zers believe salary is important when considering a future job compared to 85.4% of Baby Boomers.

>> The work from home trend is here to stay.
Over 50% of Gen Zers would be happy working from home in their future jobs. Looks like the work from home trend is here to stay! Gen Z mastered the art of studying from home through the pandemic, and now they’re bringing those skills to the workplace.

>> Expect to see more women in the Medical and Research fields.
24.9% of Gen Z women plan to pursue a career in Medicine or Research. This is higher than any other field. STEM subjects make up 58% of search subjects by students on Brainly.

>> Gen Z cares about the environment.
Over 36% of Gen Zers would prefer a stimulating but low-paying job at an environmental awareness organization vs. a high-paying job at a large for-profit company.

You can find more data from this Brainly Survey here. I had a chance to interview Brainly’s Parenting Expert Patrick Quinn to learn more.

Why was this survey conducted?
As Gen Z is starting to enter the workforce, we wanted to understand how job trends may evolve in the coming years. We were curious to see if younger generations would have different priorities than their parents and other older generations.

Why is it important to be aware of career trends with Gen Z?
As older Americans retire, younger generations will make up a larger percentage of the workforce. It is important for us to understand what that means for the future job market for both employers and employees.

What are some factors that have influenced how Gen Z looks at careers?
Gen Z has had the unique opportunity of living in a world with technology at their fingertips. Google has been around their whole lives, their parents have always had a phone in their pockets or social media accounts and they never had to use a VCR. They have had to master remote school due to the COVID-19 pandemic and turn to apps like Brainly for homework help. These would all influence how they view work and the world as a whole.
