Fun Freetime: The Marvel Heroines That Need Their Own Movies

A long list of movies based on the characters in Marvel Comics, such as Iron Man, Fantastic Four, Hulk and the Avengers, have been released in the past two decades. Yet, the majority of these flicks have been based on male heroes or superhero teams. The only time a heroine played the leading role in one of these movies was in 2005 when Elektra was released.

In 2021, fans will once again get to see a heroine in the primary role when Black Widow hits the big screen. With so many other fantastic heroines available to play the main star, it would be excellent to see a few more of these movies made.

Here's a list of seven Marvel heroines that we believe need their own movie:

Valkyrie

Tessa Thompson did a tremendous job portraying Valkyrie in the Avengers and Thor films. This superheroine has been a main character of the Defenders, which is a superhero group of rotating members. Known for her ability to battle, she's armed with two weapons, an enchanted sword and an unnamed iron spear. Her tenacity is likely to have kept her alive in several of the skirmishes she's seen. Many elements would make this heroine an interesting and perplexing character to watch. She's similar to being a female version of Indiana Jones with the ability to fend for herself. Knowing how she transformed into a bounty hunter after being an Asgardian warrior would be an exciting story to watch.

X-23

The daughter of Wolverine, X-23, who is also known as Laura Kinney, could definitely be placed in the lead role of one of these movies. While the young character did have a considerable amount of screen time in the 2017 superhero film, Logan, it was part of the X-Men series focusing on Wolverine. Understanding more about her backstory and watching her use her healing powers and retractable claws would be interesting and exciting. She's proven herself as a highly qualified assassin in the tasks she's handled for an organization known as the Facility. Having her character interact with her father in some type of quest could be an intriguing plot to consider.

Spider-Woman

As a private investigator and superspy, Spider-Woman is another top-notch candidate who deserves to be the main feature in a movie. Gaining more insight into her background and the events leading to the current day would likely be attractive to most fans. The powers possessed by Spider-Woman are similar to Spider-Man and the Black Widow, which would be fun to see in action. She's also a superb super sleuth, which could keep viewers on the edge of their seats wondering what she's going to discover. The first appearance of Spider-Woman in Marvel Comics was with Jessica Drew in 1977. The second included Julia Carpenter in 1984. It seems overdue to have this character star in the prominent role of a feature film.

Spectrum

First appearing in 2013, Spectrum, is another superheroine who could easily be cast as the main star in a new movie. She portrays herself to the public as Monica Rambeau, a lieutenant working in the New Orleans area. While attempting to prevent the formation of a dangerous weapon, she was accidentally exposed to extra-dimensional energy. This transfer of power gave her the ability to harness the energy and use it at will. Having the ability to shoot lasers and fly at the speed of light provides her with some exciting superpowers that might be fun to see in action on the big screen. As a powerful character already, her story could be intertwined into an engaging plot.

Gamora

Known as the "fiercest woman in the galaxy," Gamora made her appearance in the 2014 flick, Guardians of the Galaxy. As a warrior and assassin, this heroine is a strong candidate to be a leading character in a new film. With a strong sense of righteousness and a voice of reason, she could do well as the main star. Introducing more about her relationship with Quill into the storyline of a new movie could send viewers in another direction that could be intriguing to watch.

Wasp

The Wasp should be a familiar name to most Marvel fans as she has been involved with the Avengers on many adventures. Her alter ego, Janet van Dyne, is the daughter of a wealthy scientist. After her father was killed during an experiment when an alien entity got loose, she set out to avenge his death and underwent a biochemical procedure giving her the ability to shrink and grow wings. With today's movie magic capabilities, it would be interesting to see if the special effects are at a point where they could make her abilities seem seamless on the screen. The chances are high they probably can.

Shuri

Likely one of the most intelligent characters in the Marvel universe, Shuri is the Princess of Wakanda and has been responsible for a significant number of their technological advancements. Her brother, the Black Panther, is probably known to most Marvel fans. Seeing her star in a movie where she uses her brainpower to fight evil could be intertwined with plenty of action to create a fast-paced movie that would be highly provocative to see. Delving into her backstory would also add a significant amount of flavor to the plot.

Incorporating any of these seven heroines into a leading role would certainly be incredibly exciting. They all have unique traits, temperaments and superpowers, making them all worth watching.
