Here's the latest set of books I got to review, thanks to QuartoCreates. If you like crafts and learning new art techniques, you should definitely check the publisher out - they have books on nearly every artistic topic!
15-Minute Painting: Effortless Watercolor is a great book for beginners, and can also help experienced artists improve their techniques. The book provides an overview of tools and materials needed, and information about choosing and mixing colors. Then, the book looks at making beautiful watercolor paintings without getting bogged down in the details. The style of the book uses colorful palettes in an efficient way and large brush strokes to be able to evoke beautiful images and a light, modern style. While it might not be a style that suits everyone, it's a great way for beginners to learn in a way that they can be successful, and for experienced artists to approach watercolors differently.
15-Minute Drawing: Getting Started is also great for beginners, with tips that will help experienced artists refine their work. It discusses a variety of techniques for drawing with a graphite pencil, including pressure, stroke types, texture, blending, and more. There are a variety of prompts and space to practice in the book, which can give beginning artists a way to check out their improvement and experienced artists new prompts to practice techniques.
A Happy Book of Little Gifts to Make book features easy-to-follow projects, inspiration, and prompts designed to be done at home with basic supplies that you may already have. The projects are all relatively small, so they're easy to give as gifts and don't take a great deal of time to complete. It uses a lot of different techniques that anyone can do, including papier-mache, paint pens, and more. My daughter was a little less impressed with this book just because she had already done similar crafts to many of the things in the book, but the book itself was well-designed, with ample pictures to help you get an idea of the finished product.
Watercolor Painting at Home is a great concept for a book. Often, we think that we need to go somewhere grand to find inspiration for art, but this book finds inspiration without going anywhere - finding ideas from your yard and favorite places in your home. This helps you save on gas - and appreciate your home a little more. It can also help you look at your decor differently and figure out what you really like about where you live. It does a good job explaining techniques, like many other books, but my favorite thing about it was the idea of using your own living space as inspiration.
