Parenting Pointers: Best Way to Breastfeed in a Wrap or Carrier

August is National Breastfeeding Month, and I have the chance to share this information that helps advance and promote breastfeeding.  Below are expert tips for breastfeeding in a wrap or a carrier from Jess Mann, Babywearing Educator.

Jess Mann Shares the 5 Tops Tips for Breastfeeding in a Wrap or Carrier:

  • Loosen your wrap a little to give baby space to cross feed. Then be sure to return baby back to upright position as soon as they finish feeding. Always be sure to retighten your wrap as well!

  • If feeding baby upright in the carrier is preferred, try practicing this first by feeding baby upright on your lap in your normal nursing location.

  • After nursing in a wrap, remove baby from breast and return the baby to the proper carrying position with baby’s head close enough to kiss and making sure the airway is unobstructed.

  • Wear a tank top with a low cut neck under your shirt for more modest breastfeeding.

  • Don’t be discouraged if it takes you a few tries to nail it, especially with younger babies without strong head control.
