I recently had a chance to review THE ANTIRACIST KID by Tiffany Jewell. Although the book is geared for kids 8-12, it can definitely be appropriate for kids outside that age range.
This book looks at three key words: identity, justice, and activism. Through these words, the book educates kids on racism and antiracism, giving even young readers tools to help fight systemic racism.
It's a well-written book that clearly lays out what kids can do to make sure they are doing what they can to help make our society less racist. It tackles big issues like intersectionality, privilege, and more, without making them seem like insurmountable obstacles. Instead of just telling kids not to be racist, it empowers kids to really make a difference - and if enough kids (and adults) work to make a difference in small ways, it will have a huge impact.
