I had a chance to learn even more about parent education and Great Kids in this interview with Success Consultant Amber Green.
How does your role fit in with the Great Kids curriculum?
As a Great Kids Success Consultant, I have the privilege of building relationships, supporting, and sharing our products with new, potential and our existing partners. I’ve been in this role for five years; however, prior to coming to Great Kids – I was a home visitor who utilized the GGK P-36 months series on my visits with families, supervised home visitors utilizing the curricula, and trained. I have a heart for the work we do! I love to share with new, potential partners how the curriculum does the work for the home visitors – everything they need, conversations that include research and evidence-based content, as well as fun activities that support parent-child relationships, is all at their fingertips. The curriculum boasts a holistic approach covering topics such as attachment, social and emotional development, brain development, physical development, play, basic care, and even family-strengthening
conversations. While utilizing the curriculum as a home visitor, many of my favorite moments were seeing parents and their children play and have fun together – smiles, giggles, joy, and pride all created by opportunities for families and children to utilize what they had available in their homes and connect through the support of the child development activities that are all throughout the manuals! As a parent, you’ve heard the old saying, children do not come with an instruction manual. And, that’s true! However, when families are a part of a home visiting program – for those using GGK, they receive information, gain knowledge, and build skills around fostering a secure attachment relationship with their child. All while having fun, reducing stress and building protective buffers that support families to parent in loving and nurturing ways. Children, families, and communities benefit when parents and caregivers become confident and competent in their ability to nurture children."
What impact does it have on communities when families use programs like Great Kids?
While research shows many benefits of home visiting, studies of programs specifically utilizing GGK as their home visiting curricula have found children are read to more, are supported with developmentally appropriate activities, have increased rates of prenatal care, lower rates of child maltreatment, implement more safety practices in their home and utilize resources to meet family needs.
