Travel Tidbits: RnR Vacation Rentals

With memories still fresh from lockdowns,, missed holidays and canceled vacations, family reunions have become more and more popular. Gathering families have used this time to reconnect and to make new memories that strengthen bonds. Along with that has come a surge in remote-work options that provide more flexibility through “staycations.”

This strong urge to settle down with the entire family is not lost on RnR Vacation Rentals, a family-owned, hands-on business in South Lake Tahoe that offers a variety of extended stay vacation rental options (30 to 90 days). The tranquil and beautiful Lake Tahoe setting is the perfect backdrop for this shift, and the timing is right considering that July is National Family Reunion Month. Offering limitless activities right outside the front door of a spacious RnR vacation home, South Tahoe has become a coveted location for family reunions.

Following are five reasons to book an extended stay through RnR for a family reunion:
● Weather: Lake Tahoe’s summers are dry and sunny. Rain is a rarity. The summer high temperatures hover in the upper 70s, although heat waves can happen. And when the sun dips behind the mountains, it can get chilly. During the summer, the surface water temperature ranges from 60 to 70 degrees. The Lake Tahoe beaches are popular and there are several public beaches around the lake, along with rental boating, sailing tours and paddling.
● Inviting Indoor and Outdoor Spaces space: Finding a large well-equipped rental property that can create closeness as well as privacy is not easy. RnR offers a unique mix of experience, local knowledge and technology. Its vacation home inventory always includes houses with multiple private bedrooms, fully equipped kitchens, communal space, and outdoor areas where families can gather. Whether it’s a rousing game of cards, movie night, story-telling or slide shows, there is always room for family gatherings.
● Hiking: Exploring Tahoe’s many trails is the perfect family experience. Among the hundreds of options, RnR recommends the 1.7-mile scenic Vikingsholm Trail. Generally considered an easy route for all skill levels, it takes an average of 53 minutes to complete. End up at Vikingsholm, a 38-room mansion on the shore of Emerald Bay, and on the National Register of Historic Places. It has been called "one of the finest examples of Scandinavian architecture in North America." For more hiking recommendations and updates, check out the local blog, Tahoe Trail Guide.
● Take a cruise: Carved from granite peaks more than 2 million years ago, Lake Tahoe is one of the 20 oldest lakes in the world. Enjoying it from the deck of a cruise boat is an amazing experience. Departing from historic Zephyr Cove and operated by Zephyr Cove Resort & Marina, the M.S. Dixie II is the largest cruising vessel in South Lake Tahoe and a local favorite. The 500-passenger paddlewheeler hosts scenic dinner and sightseeing cruises year round, often with live entertainment and food. From the decks of this spacious boat, you will enjoy spectacular views of the sunset across the crystal blue water toward the peaks. Kids ages 11 and under are free. Home of the Safari Rose and the Spirit of Tahoe, Tahoe Cruises is a family-owned company that provides an extraordinary experience to view and enjoy the jewel of the Sierra Nevadas. The Spirit of Tahoe runs the majority of the daily cruises and the Safari Rose is available for weddings, private charters, reunions, etc.
● Gather for some music: South Lake Tahoe concerts heat up in the summer and each year the Lake Tahoe Outdoor Arena at Harveys hosts the Lake Tahoe Summer Concert Series, which has some of the hottest music acts under the stars performing in a 4,000-seat amphitheater. Artists who have performed at the outdoor arena in the past include Paul Simon, Lady Gaga, and The Who just to name a few. Live at Lakeview is a free weekly concert series hosted at Lakeview Commons, in the heart of South Lake Tahoe. The event hosts live music and art on the beach, along with a variety of local merchants and delicious food options plus amphitheater-style seating and breathtaking views of the lake from the beer garden. There are four free Thursdays (4:30 to 8:30 p.m.), July 7, 14, 21, 28, offering Bluegrass, Americana, Reggae and Funk/Soul.

Owned by the husband-and-wife team of Stu and Diana Roberson, RnR uses a hands-on, detail-oriented approach to property management. With a varied list of extended-stay vacation homes, RnR can help guests live their best life during a 30- to-90-day exploration of paradise.
