Caring Causes - Kindness in Action

 #BeTheKindKid Kindness in Action projects are creating a literal kindness movement emerging out of Pittsburgh, PA. The movement began with two elementary girls promising to #BeTheKindKid in Pittsburgh, and their phenomenon has grown into one that now includes 4,500 students doing hundreds of kindness projects to put their kindness into action leading up to World Kindness Day on November 13. 

OCTOBER 31 at 10 AM - THE CEREAL BOX DOMINO CHAIN
Students rallied to have thousands of cereal boxes donated and will form a domino chain featuring the donated cereal boxes - at 10 am on Halloween morning, the kids will tip over to illustrate the domino effect of kindness at Avalon Elementary School before donating to a food pantry.
 
ONGOING EVERY WEEK THROUGH NOV. 13 - STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS DELIVER COMFORT DRINKS FROM A ROVING CART 
For Kindness in Action: a new project led by students with disabilities in the Cornell School District move around the school with the Cornell Coffee Cart, delivering comfort beverages and punch cards with kindness quotes to their teachers. 
 
ONGOING EVERY WEEK THROUGH NOV. 13 TAYLOR SWIFT-INSPIRED KINDNESS BRACELETS
While Taylor Swift’s star power sweeps the nation, her kindness is equally inspiring to high school students everywhere. Several high schools, including South Fayette, have been inspired by Taylor Swift’s ERAS tour are coordinating friendship bracelet swaps.
 
ONGOING THROUGH NOV. 13 - SCHOOL SHOWERS LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT WITH KINDNESS
Kristen Fonda, of Bethel Park Senior High School recently met a team of fire fighters during a tragic fire in her neighborhood and now her students are doing a month-long layered appreciation project to shower the Bethel Park Fire Department with acts of kindness.
 
AND THE KINDNESS GROWS AND GROWS…...
About a dozen classrooms in the Bethel Park School District are collecting and delivering supplies for animal rescue shelters in the Pittsburgh region. Heather Smee and Kristen Mills from Memorial Elementary will deliver kindergarten class contributions to South Hills Pet Rescue.  Brittany Winkowski’s class will deliver donations to Animal Friends. 
 
Three teachers in the Bethel Park School District are coordinating a holiday gift drive for area families in need.
 
Two classrooms are implementing projects to make a school bus a more kind place to be. 
 
A kindergarten class has elected to dedicate all of their classroom birthday celebrations to Beverly’s Birthdays which generates parties and wish fulfillment for children in need
 
One fourth grade classroom at Pine-Richland is making a kindness quilt
