A band by the name of Smash Mouth once sang the lyrics "The years start coming and they don't stop coming."
Not only are these lyrics true, but they're also reflective of the times we live in where everyone is living ultra-busy, highly scheduled lives in an effort to maximize their productivity and make memories with their children along the way.
Mixbook surveyed Americans in all 50 states to determine where people are living the busiest lives. We asked respondents a variety of questions including what percentage of their weeknights and weekends are planned out, what responsibilities compel them to live a highly scheduled lifestyle, and more.
Key Findings:
The average American has 2.5 hours of free time on a typical weeknight.
38% of Americans say their highly scheduled lifestyle is making them miserable
New York, Arizona, and California are the states where residents report having the busiest lives.
Charlotte, Phoenix & Boston are the cities where residents have the most highly scheduled lives.
47% of Americans get anxious when their calendar is full.
- 43% of Americans with kids say their children live a highly scheduled life and are happy about it.
- 44% of Americans have half or more of their typical Saturday planned.
