A recent study by ACT LAB in Long Beach, California, has found that J.R.LIGGETT’S popular Tea Tree & Hemp Oil Shampoo Bar is “perceived effective against dandruff, in reducing it between washes, in relieving itching and in cleaning hair by about 85% of consumers.”
The volunteer group was comprised of all hair types, including thick, thin, normal, oily, dry, healthy, slightly frayed, and very worn. Most of the test subjects used the shampoo twice a week while some used it 3-4 times a week and some used it more than 4 times a week.
Tea Tree Oil has powerful antiseptic and anti-bacterial properties. It has been used to tame dandruff, itchy-flaky scalp conditions and may also stimulate hair growth. Hemp Oil contains a combination of essential fatty acids that provide our hair’s acute nutritional needs. And Almond Oil is also added to provide the essential moisturizing healthy hair requires.
I recently was able to sample several products from J.R.LIGGETT'S. Although it took a little bit to get used to the idea of a shampoo bar instead of liquid shampoo, my hair was just as clean as using a more traditional project. It definitely didn't irritate my scalp, it rinsed clean, and I was very satisfied with how my hair looked at felt (especially since I was a little concerned it wouldn't be quite as clean). The Body Oil Bar was also an effective moisturizer, leaving no greasy residue once I rubbed it in.
They also have pet shampoo in bar and liquid form. The liquid is a little easier to use for us, just because we have a large dog who isn't as patient at waiting for me to lather up the bar. However, I found that it works ok if I rub the bar on her body and then use our little plastic pet scrubber to get the lather going.
I love that the packaging for the bars is recyclable and biodegradable. Since it's not liquid, it wouldn't leak when traveling, either (and wouldn't count towards a liquid limit. This is definitely a brand I will buy again!

Application and storage. When using a bar of shampoo, it's important to make sure your hair is thoroughly wet before massaging the bar on the crown of your head. If your bar isn't lathering as much as your liquid - it's likely you have hard water. Traditional liquid shampoos use sulfates to artificially create more lather. Sulfates are unnecessary and can be harmful to your health and the environment. Wetting your hair with apple cider vinegar before shampooing will help combat hard water. Skipping the plastic bottles means your shampoo bars are exposed to the elements of the bathroom. Keeping your bar on a well-ventilated surface and away from running water between uses will help preserve the life of the bar.
