Book Nook - Gift Ideas from Workman Kids

I recently had the chance to review a variety of books from Workman Kids.

The Atlas Obscura Explorer’s Guide for the World’s Most Adventurous Kid - this fun book was a great read for us, even though my "kids" are older teens. We love to travel, and this highlights dozens of unique places around the earth, with majestic views, amazing history, and interesting quirks of science. We may never make it to everything in this book, but it sure was fun to dream about possible trips!

The Astronaut's Guide to Leaving the Planet: Everything You Need to Know, from Training to Re-entry - this is a great book for anyone interested in space. Even though a lot of it was information my kids have picked up at some point, they still were able to learn new things - and for a budding space explorer, it's a very comprehensive, well-illustrated guide.

The ABCs of Queer History - my older daughter especially appreciated this book. Although it's written in a way that will appeal to and interest younger kids, the information is solid and it's a good read for anyone who wants to learn more about queer history and some often-overlooked figures in our country's past - and ongoing journey.

The Book of Terrifyingly Awesome Technology: 27 Experiments for Young Scientists - an excellent book for anyone who loves science, or for any adult who wants to introduce a kid to some really neat science concepts. For the more adventurous, there are some amazing hands-on experiments and demonstrations, but even without doing the experiment, there is still a lot of science to be learned in this book, including some pretty challenging concept explained in ways that nearly anyone can grasp, even those without a deep science background.

Turn This Book Into a Beehive! And 19 Other Experiments and Activities That Explore the Amazing World of Bees - everyone should learn more about bees, these insects so vital to our ecosystem. This is a really neat book to get kids of all ages engaged in learning more about these tiny contributors. It can also make bees seem a little less scary and intimidating to realize how complex their world is and how much we rely on their pollination.

The Kids' Book of Craft Love: Write. Make. Play. Share. - a great option for anyone with creative kids. The book has dozens of activity ideas, and paper and cutouts in the book to help make the crafts possible. Designed for ages seven and up, even my high school senior enjoyed the patterned paper and craft ideas inside.

Bananagrams for Kids - I love word games, and the word puzzles in this book are great for kids - or even for adults! They're a fun way to challenge your brain and make you think, but they're also set up in a way that even people who aren't experienced at word games can be successful. (There's also a version for adults).

There are a lot more books available! They make a great series for toddlers called Indestructibles, activity and educational books, paint by sticker books, and much more. My kids have loved all the books we've seen from this imprint - they're engaging and definitely worth reading!
