Lonely Chicago Pie
Jenna is having a bit of a rough go at it. She‘s pregnant, fallen out of love with her husband, and is generally lonely. The only thing that brings her happiness is baking pies. One day, a man she likes shows up at her front door and wants to learn how to bake a pie. This is the pie she chose.
Ingredients:
your favorite prepared pie dough
1⁄4 cup sugar
1⁄2 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons cinnamon
12 ounces dark chocolate
11⁄4 cup heavy cream
2 cups blackberries, muddled
1 cup strawberries, muddled
Directions:
1. Preheat the oven to 400°F.
2. Place your pie crust in a pan according to package instructions. Sprinkle sugar, brown sugar and cinnamon on the bottom of the crust evenly to coat.
3. In a double boiler, melt the chocolate until smooth, stirring often. Be careful not to burn it. Remove from heat and evenly whisk in the heavy cream.
4. Pour the chocolate cream over the cinnamon sugar. Spread it evenly.
5. Spread the muddled blackberries on top of the chocolate cream. Be sure to cover the whole pie, then shape the muddled strawberries into a heart on top of the blackberries.
6. Bake for 45 minutes or until the crust is golden brown. Allow it too cool and then cover and place it in the fridge for 2 hours. Serve cold!
About the Author
Richard S. Sargent was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Some of his earliest memories are sitting in front of the TV and watching movies. While his friends were playing outside, you could often find him popping in a VHS tape or taking advantage of the free promotional HBO weekend. Today, he is an award-winning actor, director, producer, author and filmmaker. You can find his first well-received film cookbook, The Horror Movie Night Cookbook (Ulysses Press, 2023), online or at your local bookstore. A few of his short plays can be found on Amazon, published through Left Coast Publishing. With a lifelong interest in creative cooking, most of Richard’s day jobs were in restaurants or on food trucks. After taking some cooking classes in NYC, he decided doing it for a living would take all of the fun out of it. His film cookbook series is a way for him to keep it fun, not just for himself but for the audience as well. When he isn’t working on his next cookbook or upcoming feature film, he can be found rehearsing in the theatre or making tunes recording studio, or yes, on the couch watching movies. Check out his alt-rock band The Green Winter, which he formed with his husband, on Apple and Spotify. And find him on Facebook and Instagram (@moviecookbookseries).
