With the landscape of work, childcare, and family life rapidly evolving, Coworking Cafe wanted to identify the best U.S. cities for working parents in 2025. To do this, they analyzed 93 cities across ten relevant metrics ranging from school access to childcare affordability to remote work.
They also convened a panel of six leading experts adding valuable context on how family-friendly policies, local programs, school systems, and community resources shape the daily routines and choices of working parents. You can read their full answers at the end of the study.
Here are the main findings from the analysis:
Washington, D.C. comes in first place as the nation’s most family- and work-friendly city in 2025. With more pediatricians per 100K children than anywhere else, a dense network of schools, and one of the highest rates of coworking and remote-work access, the capital sets the standard for supporting working parents.
The second spot is filled in by neighboring Arlington, VA with the highest work score in the country, driven by a hybrid-friendly workforce and a strong base of office jobs – the highest share among the cities analyzed, 85%.
Seattle, WA rounds out the podium by striking a balance between professional opportunity and quality of life, harboring the third highest share of remote workers in the nation, 31.3%.
When looking strictly at childcare affordability, nine Texas cities rank in the national top 20. Frisco, TX, leads the nation with childcare representing only 7% of the median household income (less than half of what parents typically pay in big metros, like New York or San Francisco). The Phoenix suburbs of Gilbert, Scottsdale and Chandler secure their spots in the national top for childcare affordability with only 10% to 13% of local median household incomes going towards childcare costs, which is well below the national level.
Washington, D.C., Boston and New York City lead in healthcare access with more pediatricians per child than almost anywhere else in the country.
