Music Minute - Apple Music: Lost & Found Season 2

Today, Apple launches the second season of Lost & Found, an exciting Apple Music program that puts the spotlight on Nashville songwriters by showcasing some of the best country tracks that were never released, making them available for the first time to fans worldwide.

Country music songwriters are famously prolific. Many of the genre's biggest hitmakers have vaults bursting with unheard demos and ideas, all waiting for the right artist to come along and turn them into hits. With Lost & Found, Apple Music mines the vaults and pairs tracks with pitch-perfect rising or established artists to record official single releases, in incredible Spatial Audio.

Lost & Found offers unprecedented access into the world of country songwriting, releasing the original demo tracks (“Lost”) followed by their newly recorded, star-studded counterparts (“Found”). Every month will bring a new song from the vault, starting with “End Of The Night.” The demo is out now, featuring the original recording from award-winning songwriters Toby Keith, Bobby Pinson and David Lee Murphy, which was written over a decade ago in August 2015. The “Found” version will release this Friday, October 10 recorded by chart-topping recording artist ERNEST.

“This was always one of my favorites, and it was ERNEST's favorite too,” said Bobby Pinson. “He did a great job on it. When [Apple Music] asked me about this project and said 'what do we have,' it was like Christmas. It was like finding a dollar in your pocket.”

“The day we wrote it, we were laughing so hard, feeling like it was a hit,” added David Lee Murphy.

“Hearing Toby on that demo specifically – and Bobby and David Lee Murphy are great songwriters – you hear a little bit of an older, weathered Toby Keith singing a song, just hanging out on the bus,” said ERNEST. “It's an honor and a duty as country singers to keep the spirit alive of those who went on before us. I think it is what makes country music great.

We live in the greatest city for songwriting of all time, so there are an endless amount of songs,” ERNEST continued. “Every now and then, you get to pull a little diamond out of there and a little piece of history, and this is no exception. I'll never be able to sing a Toby Keith song as good as Toby Keith can sing a Toby Keith song, but I'm gonna give it hell to sing it the best I can for sure.”

ERNEST's recording of a “Found” song serves as a full-circle moment for the artist, who recorded his own version of the “Lost” song “I Would If I Could,” originally uncovered in Season 1 of the program. The demo was initially cut by Lainey Wilson for the found track and joined a successful season of recordings by stars like Miranda Lambert, Jelly Roll, Gabby Barrett, Ryan Hurd, Carter Faith and Madeline Edwards. ERNEST and Wilson brought the song to life at the iconic Bluebird Cafe in Nashville last year, performing the track together.

ERNEST will join Today's Country Radio this Friday, October 10 on Apple Music Country to talk about his version of “End Of The Night.”

Lost & Found has its own dedicated space on Apple Music where listeners can find playlists for the “Lost” demos, the newfound singles, the Lost & Found Radio show episodes and more playlists from the participating songwriters.
