Amazing Art - Interview with Kimberly Richardson from Go, Do, Go!/Ve Perro ¡Ve! (CTC MN)

Children's Theatre Company's first show of 2026 will be the bilingual musical Go, Dog. Go! • Ve Perro ¡Ve!, which will play from Jan. 20 - Feb. 22, 2026 on CTC’s UnitedHealth Group Stage (2400 Third Avenue South, Minneapolis MN 55404).

I had a chance to interview longtime Twin Cities theatre favorite Kimberly Richardson*, who is playing "MC Dog" in the production.

What's exciting about being involved in a musical adaptation of a children's book?
As the mom of a 4 1/2 year old, I am excited to be part of an adaptation of a book for young children that upholds the simple playfulness of the original.

What surprised you the most during the process of working on this show?
The show is bilingual, yes. But more than anything, the show's true language is physical comedy. So in rehearsal, we are inventing large parts of the play through improvisation that feels a little bit like dress-up or kids on a playground. I am always surprised by how delightful improvisation in a group can be, but how difficult it is to re-create an improvised idea.

I am surprised and grateful for how quickly this group of artists has cohered into an ensemble.

What's one thing you hope families take away from watching the show?

I hope families walk away giggling, and wagging their tails. I hope monolingual families take away a few new phrases of Spanish or English. And that all families feel welcomed into the theater.
