Parenting Pointers: De-Cluttering - Dining and Kitchen

If your dining room table doubles as an office, consider storing the office supplies in a small rolling cart. Then you can store everything there, and roll it out of sight when you're done with office duty.

Keep the fridge and appliances clean regularly with a weekly wipe down and check for old food - no more waiting until things are crusted on and require serious elbow grease to clean.

If you have a lot of kid-friendly dishes that don't stack well with the adult dishes, consider storing them in a picnic basket or low shelf so that kids can grab them without help.

If you frequently need to pack lunches, keep a basket filled with healthy snacks and fruit for fillers (or emergency on-the-run breakfasts). This will save time looking for them in the morning. Save even more time by packing tomorrow's lunches when you're doing tonight's cooking.

If you have a lot of takeout menus and recipe clippings, store them neatly in a manila folder or three-ring binder.

Keep your fridge front a little less cluttered by having only two pieces of kids' work at a time. When they bring something home, they decide if it replaces what's there or not.
