World Wisdom: Bee Friendly Gardens

Honey bees are disappearing, and right now people aren't completely sure why. But bees are important for food supply - not just honey, but pollinating other plants. So if you plant a garden, consider planting bee-friendly flowers. Choose flowers that make nectar and pollen (sunflowers, daisies, marigolds, crocuses, geraniums). Blue, purple, orange, and yellow flowers are most attractive to bees. Don't use pesticides, and try to get flowers that bloom throughout spring, summer, and fall.

For more information, visit Help the Honey Bees (sponsored by Hägen-Dazs), USDA Agrictulrual Research Service page on colony collapse disorder, and Urban Bee Gardens page at Berkeley.
