Giveaway: Sock Ons
Here's a new product I'd never heard of before: Sock Ons
. When my oldest daughter was little, socks never stayed on her feet (although oddly enough, we never had this problem with my younger one). If this is a problem with your baby's feet, you might want to check these out. They were invented by a mom, and are basically little v-shaped wedges in a variety of colors that go on over socks to keep them from slipping around.
Sock Ons are available from the Amazon link above, or you can also check SockOns.com for a store locator for the UK, US, and many other countries. (Sockons.com also showcases the cute moccasins and bibs available!)
One lucky reader will be able to get Sock Ons for free! Just leave a comment with the craziest place you've ever found a missing sock. Giveaway ends October 10th.

Contest: Clorox Power a Bright Future
School administrators, teachers, and parents know it can be a challenge to keep kids engaged, and with continued budget cuts taking place nationwide, schools are looking elsewhere for funding solutions to kids excited about learning. The Clorox Company’s Power A Bright Future grant program gives kids the power to grow and transform through playing, creating and exploring - important elements of learning inside and outside of the classroom. Clorox is giving $150,000 to help schools nationwide, and for the program’s third year it’s easier than ever to nominate deserving schools across the country for a chance to win. Anyone 18 or older can enter by choosing a category (Play, Create or Explore) to nominate their school and tell how it would use a $50,000 grant. Nominations will be accepted through October 17th at www.PowerABrightFuture.com. Come back on October 24th to vote for your favorite nomination, and get others to vote as well! The school with the most votes will receive a $50,000 grand prize, and additional $25,000 prizes will be awarded to each category winner and a judges’ choice school.
Consumer Critique: The Baby Nurse Bible
I recently received a copy of The Baby Nurse Bible: Secrets Only a Baby Nurse Can Tell You about Having and Caring for Your Baby
to review. There are many many many books about parenting out there, but this one is definitely worth reading. The author Carole Kramer Arsenault, RN, IBCLC, is a nurse, parent educator, certified lactation consultant, and the founder of Boston Baby Nurses, which offers new parents lactation consulting, daytime visits, and overnight support. Arsenault also provides lactation consulting at many of Boston's top birthing hospitals. So she's definitely experienced - and also has a very good look at the process of giving birth and connecting with your baby those first few days.
This particular book is also very focused. Instead of trying to span all of infancy, it focuses just on the first three months, and also answers many of the frequently asked questions that she and other baby nurses get on a regular basis. It also includes many tips for dads on how they can be involved in the birth process and during the first few months.
I've had two kids and have read and heard a lot of advice, but I still found things in this book that I hadn't heard. As with all parenting and baby books, not all of the suggestions will work for everyone - but even if you're an experienced parent pregnant again, you might find some "I wish I thought of that" tips in this book. And at Amazon.com it's on sale for only $10.98, which is an incredible value for a book that has this much great information. Even the regular price is well worth it.
Disclosure: I received a complementary copy of The Baby Nurse Bible to facilitate this review.

Parenting Pointers: Back-to-School Survival (and giveaway)
Now that school has been going for a few weeks, you might find yourself in a frenzied dash between field trips, permission slips, packing lunches, extracurriculars, homework, and more. Sometimes it can be hard to juggle everything!
Eight O'Clock Coffee wants to help by offering tips to save time and giving one of my readers a chance to win a survival pack - a drawstring bag, travel mug and 2 bags of Eight O’Clock Coffee to help start your mornings off right! My husband loved the fact that I got to try it out too - he was very happy with the travel mug (since he's the one that commutes to work) and he was also happy with the quality of Eight O'Clock Coffee. To enter, leave your back-to-school survival tip. Giveaway ends October 10th.
Here are four very helpful tips to streamline at least part of your school routine!
TIP 1: Become Your Own Brewista – Save time, money and gas this back-to-school season by brewing your morning coffee at home. You can even set your coffee maker’s timer the night before to wake up to great-smelling Eight O’Clock Coffee.
TIP 2: Preplan Lunch – Sit down with your kids and create a grocery list of healthy snacks and lunches they would like for school. Rotate each of their selections throughout the week. Make Tuesday “Turkey Tuesday” or Wednesday “Wrap Wednesday” – adding variety to keep lunch exciting. When possible, pack their lunch the night before to reduce stress in the morning.
TIP 3: Assemble Weekly Wardrobes – Every Sunday check the upcoming weekly weather forecast with your kids. Then, have them pick out five outfits for the upcoming school week. Hang them in daily order in their closet to avoid the inevitable, “Mom, I can’t find my favorite blue shirt!”
TIP 4: Be Prepared for School Projects – Avoid late night rushing around to complete school projects by having art supplies on hand. Create an arts and craft bin that includes more than just crayons and colored paper. Collect items like pipe cleaners, stickers, figurines, beads – even coffee beans – and other creative finds, and put the fun back in school projects.

Healthy Habits: Dating Abuse
Most parents think they'd be able to spot signs of dating abuse with their children, but studies show that more than half actually don't. And although being in an abusive dating relationship is very risky behavior, it's something that parents don't talk about as often as drug or alcohol use.
Liz Claiborne Inc. has launched a teen dating violence prevention initiative, Love Is Not Abuse, with an iPhone app designed to teach parents what they need to know about teen dating abuse - warning signs, resources for help, and how to start conversations with children about dating before abuse can even begin - all in one easily accessible tool.
One of the app's most interactive (and eye-opening) features is that it allows parents, through a dramatic demonstration, to experience firsthand how technology can play a role in dating abuse. Parents receive menacing phone calls, text messages and emails that mimic the types of controlling and threatening behaviors faced by nearly 1 in 4 teens.
You can view the app preview video featuring Liz Claiborne Inc. Chief Creative Officer and co-host of Project Runway, Tim Gunn, and launch event photos. For details on the Love Is Not Abuse app or the recent study, visit LoveIsNotAbuse.com. For updates, be sure to visit Love Is Not Abuse on Facebook and @Love IsNotAbuse. The app is available for download FREE OF CHARGE in the iTunes App Store (search: "Love Is Not Abuse").
Even if you don't download the app, be sure to educate yourself on recognizing the warning signs, and talk to your teens about healthy relationships.

Consumer Critique: Stanley Cleaners
My grandma used Stanley Home Products for years, and I remember getting some as gifts for my wedding shower from her. I have to admit that, although I had a pleasant experience with them at the time, I hadn't really thought about them at all since. And, I thought all they made was cleaners. Well, I was wrong - they make a lot more. But today I am going to focus on two cleaners in particular: the Stanley Degreaser Concentrate and the Glass Cleaner Foaming Spray; featuring GrimeGuard™.
The Glass Cleaner Foaming Spray is exactly what it says it is - a foaming spray. It is a little odd to use a foamy cleanser on windows, since I'm so used to traditional glass cleaner, and I was concerned that it would be harder to wipe off or would leave streaks behind. Well, as long as I didn't use too much, it was easy to wipe clean and didn't leave any streaks. It's also formulated to provide a shield to repel water spots and prevent dirt from accumulating. I didn't really notice that benefit, although we don't have a problem with water spots on our windows or mirrors anyway so it's hard to judge that. It's perfect for mirrors and windows, and can also be used on chrome, porcelain, ceramic tile, and TV screens.
The Degreaser Concentrate is also pretty straightforward - it's a concentrated cleaner to clean up greasy build-up and stains. It's four times more concentrated than conventional cleaners, so you aren't paying for a whole bunch of water to be shipped around! You hardly need to use any, and it is very effective at cutting grease. It's also safe for septic tanks, biodegradable, and phosphate-free. It can be used for more than cleaning, too - because it cuts grease, it can help prevent clogged kitchen drains, clean garbage disposals, clean combs and brushes, remove make-up and lipstick stains, and much more.
If you're interested in selling Stanley Home Products, you can take advantage of Stanley Home’s many business opportunities to make extra money in your home? Consumer Critique: Hershey's Air Delight
I recently saw advertising for new Hershey's Air Delight, and I also got an opportunity to try them for review. I have to admit, they weren't quite what I expected. I pictured a fluffier texture with the description "aerated." But they were still tasty.
I decided to try the product in several ways. First, I ate it at room temperature, the way it's supposed to be eaten. Then we ate it refrigerated and frozen, which is how we typically eat our chocolate. The room temperature one definitely was a bigger difference from traditional chocolate. It has a lighter texture and melts more quickly for a creamier feel. The refrigerated and frozen ones weren't as different from traditional chocolate, but the aerated parts did create an interested mouth feel when frozen or refrigerated.
Hershey's Air Delight has the same delicious taste as Hershey's milk chocolate and comes as a bar or as Hershey's kisses.

Fun Freetime: Tea Light Jack-o-lanterns
Here's a fun little festive craft. Take a battery-operated tea light candle and a ping pong ball. Punch a hole in the bottom of the ball and slip over the "flame," then draw a jack-o-lantern (or other designs) on the ball.
