Fun Freetime: Mr. Popper's Penguins at Children's Theatre

As a family, we recently had a chance to get some tickets to Mr. Popper's Penguins at the Children's Theatre Company. It was a really fun time and we were very glad we were able to go.

What impressed me most about the production was how much they were able to do with four actors and no major scene changes. As someone who runs our theater program at school, it gave me some great ideas for multi-use props and staging elements.

The story is cute, if you haven't read it. Mr. Popper dreams of being an explorer, and one day he's sent a penguin by his hero explorer. This leads to a lot of funny escapades, including a sweet song where they've left the windows open in the winter for the penguins. The work with the puppets for the penguins was well done and extremely well-coordinate among the four actors, who doubled as explorers, narrators, and townspeople.

If you're looking for a charming winter play, check it out! The play runs through February 24th.
