Book Nook: Performance Under Pressure - Crack Your Personal Stress Code and Live the Life of Your Dreams

The madness of the fall season is upon us but no need to worry (!!), international authority on stress, Dr. Terry Lyles, will tell you that there is a secret that only elite performers know, and it is this: stress is good. While natural disasters and tragedy are some of the most trying events for humans to process, changing social and political environments also cause stress, as do ordinary events over the course of a lifetime, such as getting married, having children, facing deadlines, changing careers, and holiday madness.
In his groundbreaking new book, Performance under Pressure: Crack Your Personal Stress Code and Live the Life of Your Dreams (September 10, 2019), motivational speaker, life-performance expert to professional athletes, military personnel, and business executives, and author of four books on stress, Terry Lyles, Ph.D., takes us on a personal journey into the heart of the misunderstood subject of stress.

I had a chance to interview him to learn more.

How does stress affect other areas of our lives, like health, happiness, and how much we get done?
Stress is gravity which means it is neither positive or negative and needs to be navigated in everyday life circumstances including health, happiness and productivity aspirations. The top reason why people go to Emergency rooms is stress related! Unprocessed Stress like spatial gravity, can be a very dangerous force to be reckoned with in all aspects of life personally, relationally and occupationally. Stress both positive and negative needs defining and actuated by individual

How can people find out their own "stress code?"
Personal stress codes are “loaded” into our DNA and life experience growing up and understanding the combination to unlock the healthy response reaction mandates a system of understanding “Performance Under Pressure.” These individual codes are the alignment of who we are mentally, emotionally, spiritually and physically and elite performers call this “the zone” experience. Getting into the zone unlocks the superhuman ability to navigate all types of life challenges at home and at work.

What makes the difference with people who seem to thrive under pressure?
People who thrive under pressure have a capacity to align themselves and sometimes this is personality trait combined with life experiences that conditioned them to do so, but the secret to thriving under pressure is understanding how to enter that space and duplicate that action under pressure on demand. This is the power of unlocking one’s personal stress code to excel daily.

How can people move from negative to positive states even when they're stressed?
Emotions and energy levels are interconnected and inseparable and require a unique style of breathing patterns much like lamaze and martial arts training. Understanding this G-Breath breathing pattern is what fighter pilots and racecar drivers use to travel at high speeds while retaining total focus and concentration coupled with high energy and calm emotional equity. This multi-quadrant balancing has been reserved to the training of elite performers but now to the world through “Performance Under Pressure” training.
