Book Nook: The High Sign

People have been making predictions about the end of the world for centuries, so I was fully expecting to not really get much out of The High Sign, a new book I recently got to review. However, I was pleasantly surprised.

Right away, the author is up front about how we can't predict the exact day - but we should be able to expect the sign that will herald this event.

The author has definitely done his work - he's been studying this topic for well over a decade and still feels that his theories ring true. He uses two hundred prophetic images and 24 specific events that can be interpreted to fall in line with his interpretation of the end times. He ties astronomical events to specific Biblical events, including the Flood, destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, and Jesus' birth. The writing style is clear without being too stuffy and academic, and the end-of-chapter summaries help make sure readers get the main point.

I will say that while I'm still skeptical, I couldn't find anything that was outright wrong with his research - he's done far more than I have, and everything that I read in the book seems to fit. At the end he does give a rough guess of timing - but is very clear that we can't know, and that his guess at timing should be taken with a grain of salt. The important thing for him isn't the when, but the how will we know.
