World Wisdom: Single Origin Coffee

When it comes to purchases that are going to be a part of our daily lives, we typically like to know a little bit more about the product. While we heavily rely on labels to provide us with most of our product’s information, do we truly understand its origins?

Nora Tobin, performance enhancement and executive coach to Fortune 100 companies, nutrition specialist and CEO of Nora’s Naturals Coffee, highlights the importance of single origin coffee and the benefits that extend way beyond just a bolder flavor.

“Similar to the consumption of food from a local garden, single origin coffee provides the pure form of beans from a region that puts many practices in place to protect the environment, farmers and species. Single origin farms provide a coffee bean that is representative of the place with a unique flavor profile depending on the region. Single origin also allows for traceability- the customer will know exactly where the bean is coming from, rather than a blend from a variety of places,” says Nora Tobin.

With that being said, it is crucial to know where the coffee in your cabinet originates from in order to maximize its health benefits.

Here are Nora’s top 3 reasons to consider single origin coffee:

Reason #1: It’s Traceable and Authentic
Single origin coffee refers to the coffee being sourced from a single region and/or producer. The benefits of single origin coffee range from the authenticity, traceability and overall quality of the beans. When coffee is single origin, you are able to trace exactly where your beans came from without worrying about a blend that results in a decrease in quality. In addition, the flavor of the beans usually represent the origin of which it was grown, providing for a unique and personal experience. Single origin coffee provides an authenticity to both the beans grown, as well as the land from which they were harvested.

Reason #2: It Provides the Best Quality and Taste
Just like fruits and vegetables growing in a certain season, coffee has different growing seasons depending on the region. Choosing a single origin coffee in each season will allow for the best quality and taste, without having sat for a time period on a shelf. This provides the highest levels of antioxidants and takes out the risk of developing mold toxins.

Reason #3: It Environmentally Conscious
By choosing coffee from single origin and, if possible, micro-lots, the consumer will be supporting seasonal farms that maintain the natural habitat and environmental benefits where the bean comes from, as well as preserve the biodiversity of the land. It is for this reason, why Nora’s Naturals Coffee sources its coffee from seasonal, sustainable farms.
