National Pet Month is a time to celebrate and raise awareness of responsible pet ownership including all the things to consider when bringing a new pet home. There are many lovable pets out there, each with their own unique personalities and needs. Choosing a new furry family member can be overwhelming but having the right resources and information can make the process enjoyable for all.
Enter Adopt a Pet, an organization dedicated to improving the health outcomes of shelter pets. They have helped millions of pets find their forever home by matching pet owners with the right pet based on their lifestyle and preferences, and by providing pet owners with tips and tools to get their pet started off on the right foot.
At the helm of providing these educational tips and tools for both shelter teams and adoptive pet owners, is Zoetis, Adopt a Pet’s exclusive pet health partner. Recently the two organizations announced their partnership to help ensure healthy starts for shelter pets and their new families, including education on preventing fleas, ticks and heartworm disease that is often driven by the warmer temperatures this time of year.
Over the past 20 years, Adopt a Pet has enabled over 223,000 pet adoptions and built a vast network of more than 17,000 animal shelters and rescues, all serving families and homeless pets in local communities.
This interview features Dr. Patrick Flynn, President the Human Animal Bond Association and Professional Services Veterinarian at Zoetis along with April Huntsman, CAWA, Senior Director of Animal Welfare from Adopt a Pet, who discuss the best strategies for positive pet adoptions and share more details about their work with local shelters around the U.S. They also provide tips for keeping pets safe and healthy.
