Book Nook - My Fairyland

Ann Steedman’s My Fairyland is a richly illustrated, delightfully imaginative children’s book that invites readers of all ages into an imaginative realm filled with laughter, kindness, and wonder. Spanning 15 charming chapters, each story introduces a lively cast of magical characters whose lives and adventures weave together across the enchanting landscape of Fairyland.

With its gentle, joyful spirit, the author has created a tonic for modern times - a world without fear or aggression – and a place where humour, heart, and creativity take centre stage. With elves, pixies, brownies, fairies, the Wizard and more, each chapter stands on its own whilst contributing to a larger story that unfolds with warmth and imagination.

Brimming with this 90+ great grandmother’s enchanting colour and black-and-white illustrations (and a much commented-upon front cover) every tale delivers a literary and visual feast to share aloud or explore independently.

Ideal for bedtime reading, classroom storytelling, or simply a quiet afternoon escape, My Fairyland brims with offers a timeless, feel-good experience for children – and a dose of nostalgic joy for adults, too.

Synopsis:

Many characters that children will love run through the whole of "My Fairyland" with all that happens in their lives... Some are funny and some are charming and when the Fairy Queen is ill it is most touching. However she recovers thanks to her devoted King and all the other subjects... Trooly and Rooly (brother elves who live in a fantastic mushroom house), the Wizard, and Busy-Body a pixie, Blinks the Brownie and his pretty wife Lucinda Tansy (the only fairy in Fairyland to have a wand). There is a dreadful family called The Glugs, and some mysterious creatures called The Door Mat Demons who scoot about under doormats. The young heroine is Fey the Grey Fairy who loves the handsome prince called Prince Dicken and so there is a romance in Fairyland too. Not to be forgotten are the very special little trees that grow in the Fairy Forest... Puss in Boots makes an appearance too!

The author says:

I am fully retired now from my life in the world of ballet both as a professional dancer and as a teacher and choreographer. In a way the stories are vehicles for illustration as I have painted and designed most of my life. This is my first children's published book (and others are in the pipeline) although in the past I did write a story for my local BBC, which was read beautifully by an actress in 16 parts in the run up to Christmas a few years ago.

“As a great grandmother and a bit over 90 myself, I have found the process of writing and illustrating this book most therapeutic, especially as my darling daughter died four years ago, aged 61, in the USA.  She was most artistic and would be delighted that my children’s stories and illustrations are meeting a hopefully appreciative audience.”
